Department of  Microbiology

Micro-organisms like viruses, bacteria, fungi, etc. are the causes of various diseases in the human body, and their presence can make the people highly sick. However, the role of some bacteria in the body functioning is undeniable, predominantly those which reside in the gut region. To maintain the balance between the good and bad micro-organisms, and deal with the dangerous ones, the Microbiology department at Santhiram offers comprehensive study of these aspects to the students.

There are various kinds of micro-organisms in the nature, and they are mainly classified into Acellular (No cells), Unicellular (one cell), and Multicellular (group of cells, usually a colony). The Microbiology students are explained with these topics, so that they can interpret and extract the important components from the micro-organisms like DNA, RNA and Nucleic Acid.

Various sub-disciplines are also present in this field, like Bacteriology, Virology, Parasitology, etc, which provide in-depth analysis regarding the respective aspects. Our students are taught with all the concepts in this field and they are also provided with an astounding practical environment, so that they can study and understand the compositions and functioning of various microorganisms. Their knowledge is very important to deal with the different health challenges faced by the society, and maintain impeccable health standards in the country.

The mission of Microbiology department is to promote good quality education, research and to provide the most rigorous and inspiring training in the discipline of Microbiology with greater significance of application in Rayalseema region.

Our vision is to produce highly qualified and competent managers in all the selected area of Microbiology, to develop and maintain a strong and supportive research programme to complement our national needs and to rise as center of excellence and information and knowledge in the all fields of Microbiology.
