Department of Pharmacology

Pharmacology is a medical science, which deals with the effect of various chemicals on the human body, particularly the drug action. This knowledge is used in the preparation and manufacture of highly effective drugs, which can cure a range of health diseases.

Drugs are classified into Natural, Man-made and Endogenous (which are prepared by the human body itself). There are various chemical processes related to them, and their interaction with the human body is studied by the Pharmacology Department. For this purpose, the drug composition, properties, synthesis, functioning of cells and molecules, mechanisms of various body organ systems, toxicology, etc. are interpreted and understood by the Pharmacology students at the Santhiram Medical College.

The need of adept coaching is clearly evident in this field, to make the students knowledgeable about various chemicals and drugs, and their effect on the human body. A wide variety of laboratorial experiments should be conducted in this regard, and it makes the students understand the concepts better. Santhiram Medical College provides innovative teaching, coupled with excellent amenities for this purpose, and this trait has proven impeccable for our students.

The responsibility of our Pharmacology Department is to impart excellent education to the students, and turn them highly proficient in these aspects, so that their services are of incredible use to the society and the country.

Our Mission
Our mission is to provide quality preclinical and clinical education in pharmacology and therapeutics for medical students, to educate and train graduate and postdoctoral biomedical scientists, to carry out basic research of recognized excellence, and to participate in governance and leadership in the College of Medicine at santhiram.

The vision of the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy is directed “to become a centre of excellence in clinical pharmacology and pharmacy.”
